The standard step bracket allows you to get into and out of the vehicle through the side door, but the driver has to get into the truck box. The 2 retracting steps are a safer and more comfortable way of getting into the vehicle. They are ideal when the side door is used often. A sliding door with integrated steps is a variant of this.
